Get Started as a Graduate Student at Bagwell
Welcome to KSU and the Bagwell College of Education! We are thrilled to have you join us and begin this exciting journey. As you prepare for the upcoming semester, please complete the important steps below to ensure a smooth start.

Step #1 - Look up your KSU Credentials
Your NetID username, KSU ID #, and KSU email address are unique identifiers for centralized access to campus resources.
To look up these 3 credentials, please follow the steps below.
1. Watch the following video for an overview.
2. Click the KSU ID Lookup Tool. Enter the requested information.
3. Take note of your NetID, KSU #, and KSU email address.
4. Take note of your initial password. Your initial password is your KSU ID # plus .KSU in all caps.

Step #2 - Activate Your NetID
You can activate your NetID and password 24-48 hours after being fully accepted to KSU.
1. Watch the following video for an overview.
2. You will need to know your initial password from Step #1. Your initial password is your KSU ID # plus .KSU in all caps. (Ex: 000167238.KSU)
3. Sign in to the NetID Customer Portal to change your initial password and activate your NetID.
4. Take note of your new password so you don't forget it.

Step #3 - Activate Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is a two-factor authentication solution at KSU that adds an extra layer of security to your NetID. It uses two separate elements to confirm your identity: something you know, like your NetID password, and something you have, like a mobile device or landline. This prevents anyone from accessing your account, even if your password is compromised.
1. Go to https://campus.kennesaw.edu/offices-services/uits/technology-guides/mfa.php, watch the video for instructions and configure MFA.

Step #4 - Check Your KSU Email
Your KSU email will be your official email address for all university related communications. You will need your email address and password to sign in to your KSU mail.
1. Go to ksumail.kennesaw.edu.
2. Enter your NetID and password.
3. Once you are signed in to your KSU email account, you may want to forward your KSU email to an email account you check every day. Click on Settings, Click on Forwarding, Click on Enable Forwarding, Enter the email address.

Step #5 - Check for Holds on Your Account
Holds on your account will prevent you from registering for classes. We recommend that you resolve any holds on your account before registration begins. You can view any holds applied to your account by logging in to Owl Express. Owl Express is an online system used to access your student records, register for courses, and access financial aid information. You can learn more about the different types of registration holds at this link.
1. Login to Owl Express.
2. Click on the Registration tab.
3. Click on Prepare for Registration.
4. Read the screen to determine if you have any holds on your account.

Step #6 - Remove a Lawful Presence Verification Hold
Lawful Presence Verification (LPV) verifies that a student is legally in the country. It is required of every student who is classified as a Resident (in-state) student and/or receiving an out-of-state tuition waiver in accordance with BOR Policy 4.3.4. You will need a clean copy of your driver’s license. You can read more details at this link.
1. Locate and inspect your driver's license.
- Must contain the REAL ID star.
- Must be unexpired.
- Temporary and Limited Term licenses are not accepted.
- Limited Permits and licenses issued for less than 2 years are not accepted.
2. Take a picture of the front and back of your driver's license. It must be a clear picture with the ability to see all portions of the front and back of the card.
3. You can submit your documents in person at the Office of the Registrar or online by using the Lawful Presence Verification Submission Form.
Please allow 7 to 10 business days for KSU to process your LPV submission. Business days do not include weekends, holidays, or other days that the university is closed. We will only email you if there is an issue with the document you sent us. Once the correct documentation has been processed, you will see that the hold has been resolved on the View Holds page under the Registration tab in Owl Express.

Step #7 - Check Your Registration Time Ticket
Your registration time ticket is the specific registration time assigned to you before each
registration period, which allows you to register for your selected classes. At the beginning of each registration period, a new time ticket is assigned based on your total earned credit hours.You can view your registration time by logging in to Owl Express. Owl Express is an online system used to access your student records, register for courses, and access financial aid information.
1. Login to Owl Express.
2. Click on the Registration tab.
3. Click on Prepare for Registration and select the semester.
4. Read the screen to determine when you are assigned to register.

Step #8 - Learn how to Register in Owl Express
Owl Express is an online system used to access your student records, register for courses, and access financial aid information.
It may not be time for you to register yet, but when it is, follow the steps below.
1. Watch the following video for an overview.
2. Make sure you have the CRN numbers for each course you need to register for. A CRN number is a 5-digit course registration number specific to the class in which you are trying to register for. Your program coordinator or advisor will have the CRNs that you need.
3. Use your Net ID and password to login to Owl Express..
4. Click on the Registration tab at the top.
5. Click on Register for Classes.
6. Select the term.
7. Click on the CRNs tab.
8. Enter the CRNs and click on Add Summary. The class will have a status of Pending. Make sure Web Registered is selected from the drop-down menu. Click Submit.
If there are no errors, you will be successfully registered.

Step #9 - View the KSU Academic Calendar
The KSU Academic Calendar is a schedule of all the events that occur in an academic year, such as first and last day of classes, holidays, winter and spring breaks, registration, drop/add periods, and payment deadlines.
1. Click on the Academic Calendar.
2. Select the semester you wish to view.
3. Note important dates to help you plan your semester.

Step #10 - Ask Financial Aid or Scholarship Questions
The Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid provides financial assistance, resources, and services to students at KSU.
1. Please locate your financial aid counselor by scrolling down to the bottom of this link.
2. If you have questions about financial aid, you can do one of the following:

- Walk-In - Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00 - Kenneaw Hall
3. If you have questions about scholarship availability, please review the Scholarship Universe website.

Step #11 - Learn how to Login to your Online Courses Using D2L
D2L stands for Desire2Learn and is the learning management system (LMS) for KSU. D2L is an online platform where you will login to access your courses, submit assignments, take quizzes, and communicate with your professors and classmates.
Since you have just been accepted, you will not have access to D2L yet. However, on the first day of class, this is where you will go to login and begin your coursework.
1. Login to D2L Brightspace using your NetID and password.

Step #12 - Track Your Progress Toward Graduation in DegreeWorks
DegreeWorks is a web-based academic planning and degree auditing tool that is used by many universities and colleges to assist students in tracking their academic progress towards degree completion. The program provides a user-friendly interface that allows students to view their degree requirements, track completed coursework, and plan future semesters.
Degree Works also provides you with an easy-to-read degree audit that shows your progress towards meeting all degree requirements. This tool is designed to help you stay on track towards graduation and ensure that you are taking the necessary courses to meet your degree requirements.
DegreeWorks can be found in Owl Express.
1. Login to Owl Express.
2. Click on the Registration tab.
3. Click on DegreeWorks.
You should see the following student information.
- Your current major
- Classification
- Academic Standing
- Holds
- Time-Ticket(s) for registration
- GPA and degree progress
- Degree Requirements
