As a student in the HMI program, you can receive reimbursement for professional certificates obtain while you are a student in the program. Examples of certificates that our students have taken in the past are listed below, but you are not limited to any of these listed. We encourage you to do your own search and please feel free to list others that are not on here.

Reimbursement Information and Process:

When selecting a professional certification to earn, please read through this page carefully and contact the HMI staff if you have any questions. Once you've selected your certification, please follow these steps to proces your reimbursement:

  1. Submit the form at the bottom of this page and await confirmation that your certification is approved for reimbursement.

  2. Once you have confirmation, complete the vendor information request that will be provided to you.

  3. After earning your professional certification, email Millena Da Silva at mdasilv2@kennesaw.edu or Tonya Clark tclar121@kennesaw.edu with the following documents:

    • Receipt
    • Copy of certificate
    • Any additional justification and information requested to complete the reimbursement

The HMI program partners with AMIA to offer our students the opportunity to obtain AHIC study materials and certification, completely paid for by the program! Through a rigorous selection process, we partner with AMIA to choose from a pool of our students for this opportunity.

American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT®) - Certified professionals work in hospitals, but are also found in other healthcare setting including office-based physician practices, nursing homes, home health agencies, mental health facilities, and public health agencies. RHITs may also be employed in any organization that uses patient data or health information, such as pharmaceutical companies, law and insurance firms, and health product vendors.
