The Bachelor of Science in Human Services (HS) provides students with an educational foundation for careers focused on supporting individuals, families, and communities experiencing social and personal challenges. Students develop self‑reflection and self‑awareness skills to better understand their values, beliefs, and biases, which are essential when working with diverse and vulnerable populations.
The Human Services degree is interdisciplinary and prepares graduates to work in a variety of roles and settings, including nonprofit organizations, community agencies, advocacy groups, and behavioral health environments. The program emphasizes practical skills and hands‑on learning, including two required internships that allow students to apply classroom knowledge in real‑world human service settings.
Human Services majors choose one of three concentration pathways:
Graduates of the Human Services program develop core competencies in communication, assessment, advocacy, documentation, community networking, intercultural fluency, social policy, civic engagement, and professional and career development. Program graduates may qualify to take the Human Service Board Certified Practitioner (HS‑BCP) examination.
