For civil engineering student Anthony Marteniuc, leading Kennesaw State University’s Steel Bridge Competition Team has been more than an extracurricular activity. It has been a year-long mission to rebuild a program with a proud legacy on the Marietta Campus. In recognition of his efforts, Marteniuc recently earned the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Georgia Section Student of the Year award.

Kennesaw State computer game design and development students turn stargazing into interactive learning

Exploring the stars takes a creative turn with Draw the Night Sky, an interactive video game developed by Kennesaw State University computer game design and development students. Created in collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carters Lake, the game allows players to explore real-time constellations in a gamified experience built to educate and engage. The project recently earned first place among undergraduate entries at the KSU’s College of Computing and Software Engineering annual C-Day showcase, where it was recognized for originality, usability, and educational value.

Maria Valero de Clemente has mentored more than 50 undergraduate students during her time at Kennesaw State University, motivated by her commitment to a student-first approach to research. Valero is the recipient of the 2025 Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award, given annually by the Office of Undergraduate Research to a faculty or staff member at KSU who has exhibited not only success, but also a sustained diligence to their students.

Although her undergraduate experience provided her valuable time doing research in a laboratory, Garavis realized she could benefit from several practical skills before preparing to apply to medical school. That’s when she attended an open house and discovered certification classes offered through KSU’s Community and Professional Education (CPE).

Based in the Coles College of Business, Department of Marketing and Professional Sales, the agency is providing marketing services to an expanding variety of businesses and other organizations, while serving as a training ground for its staff, who are all Kennesaw State University students.
