Pursue Perspectives in Our Global Economy

Welcome to the Department of History and Philosophy at Kennesaw State University! Do you ever wonder why the world is the way it is? Does human nature and the human past fascinate you? Do you want to get the "big picture" of the world? Our students explore the complex breadth and depth of human nature and experience through historical, political, social, and cultural understanding. Unlike your high school courses that concentrated on dates and facts, our award winning faculty promote valuable skills such as analytical and critical thinking, research, articulate and powerful writing, collaboration, intellectual curiosity, and empathy to prepare students for success inside and outside of the classroom.

History & Philosophy graduates enjoy careers in a wide variety of fields including business, law, government, international business, education, research, public history, historic preservation and numerous other areas (visit American Historical Association and American Philosophical Association for more information). Consider one of the majors offered by our department to pursue strategies and ideas that reflect multiple perspectives in our multifaceted and changing global economy.

Norman J. Radow, the noted philanthropist, community champion, business leader, and KSU benefactor earned a B.A. degree in history, with minors in philosophy and communications at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Plattsburgh in 1978. “Anyone can learn the technical aspects of business,” Mr. Radow says. “My humanities degree gave me a thoughtful perspective of our world, helped me think critically, write well, and support positions and theories to my peers. This gave me the tools I needed to succeed – in law school, in business, and in life.”

We offer B.A. degrees in History or Philosophy, and a B.S. degree in History Education. You can minor in either History, Philosophy, Ethics, Public History, or Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. We have also partnered with the Double Owl program to offer B.A. degrees in History or Philosophy with a M.B.A. in Business Administration, M.S. degree in Conflict Management, M.S. in Cybersecurity, M.A. in Professional Writing, M.A. in American Studies, M.A. in Art & Design, or M.P.A. in Public Administration. These pages introduce our faculty, describe our courses and programs, and provide resources for faculty and students.
