Dr. Ghadge and students from his Transnational Sociology class went on a “Transnational Community Field-trip” to understand the everyday lived transnational experiences of the South Asian immigrant community in Atlanta. They visited the BAPS Swaminarayan Temple in Lilburn and the Global Mall. Students gained a first-hand experience of how transnational religious organizations (re)construct and transform the religious landscape of the US and how South Asian transnational migrants engage in cultural ‘place-making’ in the metropolitan Atlanta region. The students were most thrilled to travel in a university van together and to being treated to a sumptuous Indian lunch buffet at the Ashiana restaurant in the Global Mall!
