Required Syllabus Information for KSU Courses


Kennesaw State University is committed to ensuring that all course syllabi meet institutional, Board of Regents, and federal requirements. Faculty are expected to include the most current policies and procedures in their syllabi each semester. To support this, Academic Affairs provides centralized resources and templates to guide syllabus development and ensure compliance.

Important:

Faculty teaching a Core IMPACTS course, a Bagwell College of Education course, or a teacher education course outside of Bagwell must post syllabi by August 11, 2025.

  • Simple Syllabus is a centralized, template-driven platform that allows KSU instructors to quickly personalize and publish interactive class syllabi directly within D2L Brightspace (KSU’s LMS). All syllabi are automatically stored in a campus-wide repository for easy access and compliance.
  • Kennesaw State University uses Simple Syllabus to: 

    • Ensure all syllabi meet institutional, Board of Regents (BOR), and federal requirements.
    • Provide students with consistent, accessible, and up-to-date course information.
    • Support transparency and academic planning across departments.
  • Simple Syllabus uses a template-based system that pulls course data from KSU’s Learning Managment System. Templates can be customized at the university, college, department, or course level. The university-level template includes all required policies such as: 

    • Academic Integrity 
    • Accessibility 
    • Instructional Continuity 
    • Campus Safety 

    For help addressing department-specific template requirements, contact the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment via a service ticket.
  • Faculty should follow departmental guidelines for syllabus submission.

    • Generally: Syllabi should be available in D2L Brightspace one week prior to the first day of class.
  • You can access Simple Syllabus: 

    • Through your course shell in D2L Brightspace. 
    • Via the Simple Syllabus dashboard using your KSU NetID and password. 

    To enable it in D2L: 

    1. Go to your course. 
    2. Click Course Admin > Navigation & Themes. 
    3. Add the Simple Syllabus link to your course navigation. 
  • Once enabled: 

    • Return to the D2L course section for which you would like to edit the syllabus. 
    • Click the Simple Syllabus link in your D2L course navigation bar. 
    • Fill in and revise the required fields (highlighted in yellow). 
    • You must select “Publish” for the changes to be live. 
  • Some fields are locked at the university, college, or department level to ensure compliance.

    These include: 

    • Course title, number, and section. 
    • Instructor of record. 
    • Credit hours and modality. 
    • University-wide policies. 

    If you believe a field should be editable,  contact the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment  via a service ticket.
  • By drafting and publishing your syllabus within your D2L course section, your syllabus is generated and automatically included in the public syllabus library.
    • Public: Viewable by anyone with the syllabus library link. 
    • Private: Only visible to enrolled students and instructors.
  • Contact Simple Syllabus support accessible from within the syllabus authoring tool or the DLI instructional designer for your college.
  • Any instructor or teaching assistant who you assign the secondary instructor role to within D2L can edit the syllabus. 
  • Yes, using Simple Syllabus ensures compliance with university and BOR policies, which require all syllabi be publicly published in the syllabus library.
