Exhibitions, concerts, performances, and more

Celebrate the cooler weather of fall and be inspired by an arts performance, concert, or exhibition close to home.  The College of the Arts at Kennesaw State University (ArtsKSU) offers visual art exhibitions (all of which are free) and a wide range of concerts and performances in dance, theatre, and music to indulge your artistic side.   

As part of ArtsKSU Presents, the School of Music will host Israeli-born Anat Cohen Tentet on November 9, bringing audiences an evocative and exciting experience centered around the clarinet. Both on stage and on their critically acclaimed releases, Happy Song and 2019’s Triple Helix, the Tentet weaves a tapestry of sounds, freeing Cohen to explore the full range of the clarinet’s dynamics and demonstrate its vastly expressive character. The Tentet is another synergistic collaboration between Anat and co-producer/co-arranger Oded Lev-Ari.

If you like musicals, be sure to catch the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies’ Bring It On: The Musical, based on the hit film, Nov. 7-17. Bring It On explores the cutthroat world of competitive cheerleading alongside the complexities of high school friendships, rivalries, romances, and betrayals. Come for the fresh sound and explosive dance and stay for the hilarity and heart. 

On November 14, the College will host “The Arts Meet Science and Technology: Faculty Research in the Arts Colloquium” at the Ruth B. Zuckerman Pavilion from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Free and open to the public, the Colloquium will showcase KSU research projects in which the traditionally distinctive arts are influenced by or are engaged with methods, technologies, and approaches that have been adapted from the world of science, engineering, and technology.

Up next is KSU Dance Company’s Slang, featuring an evening of contemporary and classical choreography by Andrea Knowlton, Sean Nguyen-Hilton, and nationally renowned guest artist Jimmy Orrante. The performances on November 15-16 will highlight the diverse artistic voices that make KSU Dance a leader in undergraduate education in the Southeast.

You will want to dance like a Sugar Plum Fairy when you hear about the holiday music concerts planned at KSU. Get into the holiday spirit with not one, not two, but three holiday shows at KSU.

First, the School of Music will present a Holiday Concert on December 6 featuring holiday favorites performed by the KSU Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and choirs. This festive and exciting program will include popular carols and more.

Next, the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies will present their Holiday Benefit Performance on December 8. This celebratory compilation of beloved holiday songs, music and stories is sure to be a hit; all proceeds benefit Theatre and Performance Studies majors pursuing a study abroad program.

Finally, the Bailey Performance Center will host the KSU Community and Alumni Choir as they perform “Love Came Down at Christmas” featuring holiday favorites on December 12, 2019 at 8 p.m. in Morgan Concert Hall. Highlights include “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
