Spring Arts Festival Scheduled for March 23 at KSU

KENNESAW, Ga. | Feb 13, 2024

Festival offers art lovers the chance to engage in various visual arts activities

Kennesaw State University’s School of Art and Design will host the annual Spring Arts Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at the Chastain Pointe Studios on the Kennesaw campus. This free event offers fun for the whole family and is open to the public.

Assistant Director of the KSU School of Art and Design Craig Brasco says, “We are excited to host the Spring Arts Festival once again. We will welcome back several of our previous guest artists, including a blacksmith, a glass blower, and two wonderful chalk artists. We will also have numerous School of Art and Design faculty conducting a variety of artistic workshops and demonstrations.”

This festival offers art aficionados the chance to engage in various visual arts activities. These activities include workshops and demonstrations in both 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional media led by both guest artists and KSU faculty members. The sessions include soft sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting, Korean mulberry paper bookmarks, quick set resin art (with glitter), inclusive art, photo collage, and more.

Public and private schools in the surrounding community are also encouraged to participate in the annual Pin-Up show. This show invites young artists and students to showcase their work and submit them for judging in one of five categories: elementary, middle, high school, community, and Art from the Heart.

Teachers may submit 10 works per school to be displayed and judged for various awards. Any media that can be mounted to a bulletin board/wall with no more than four push pins (provided by the festival) is allowed. Works also should be less than 12”x12”x12” in size.

Entries for the Pin-Up Show may be submitted in advance by dropping them off at Chastain Pointe, or they may be submitted the day of the festival. Judging will take place between 1-1:30 p.m., with the awards ceremony held at 2 p.m. More information on submission guidelines, times and show details may be found here

The festival will also include the always popular Artist’s Market. Brasco notes that the market will feature nearly 70 current and former KSU students who will be showcasing and selling their art.

The event is being held at Chastain Pointe 115 Studio, which houses the studios for KSU’s Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking programs. It also contains distinct working areas for book arts, intaglio, letterpress, lithography, papermaking, relief, and serigraphy. Attendees will have the opportunity to see these spaces in action through the workshops, demonstrations, and market.

There will also be swag bags for all attendees (while supplies last) and food trucks providing a variety of food options. “We look forward to seeing the community join us as we celebrate the visual arts at KSU!" Brasco says.

Don’t miss this free, family-friendly event on Saturday, March 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free parking is available across the street at KSU’s Town Point parking, and free shuttles will transport guests to and from Chastain Pointe for the event.
