The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Elementary Education is designed to prepare candidates with the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions needed to effectively meet the needs of all elementary students in a variety of educational settings across the state of Georgia. At the completion of this program, candidates will receive a MAT degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and will be eligible for initial certification in P-5 Elementary Education.

Our MAT in Elementary Education is offered fully online with in-person school field placements and is designed to be completed within four semesters, with program enrollment in Summer.  The program consists of 39 total credit hours, including school placements in P-2 and 3-5 grade bands.   This cross-disciplinary program places special emphasis on content studies in mathematics and reading to support the development of reading and mathematical skills of young learners.

Admission Requirements

Must possess the following beyond the general KSU Graduate College Admission Requirements:

  • Degree—Bachelor’s degree
  • Georgia Educator Ethics Assessment—Uploaded to your graduate application. Information may be found on the GACE Ethics website. You may print a copy of your completion certification from the GACE Ethics test taker website. 
  • Professional Resume—uploaded to the graduate application. Should document education, any teaching experience, volunteer experience, service accomplishments, and record any leadership activities.
  • GaPSC Application for Pre-Service Certification (NOTE: this step occurs after acceptance by the Graduate College, prior to enrolling in courses, and is a GaPSC requirement. Find more about the Pre-Service Certification.
