Construction Management Students Win National Awards

Temi Aladegbemi

Temi Aladegbemi is currently a senior in the Construction Management program here at KSU and the president of Kennesaw Women in Construction (KWIC). Temi was chosen to receive the annual scholarship from the NAWIC Founders Scholarship Foundation on behalf of the Atlanta Chapter and NFSF for the upcoming academic year.  The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is a non-profit association of women who are actively employed in the many phases of the construction industry, with more than eight thousand members in chapters throughout the United States. Their Scholarship Foundation, NAWIC Founders' Scholarship Foundation (NFSF), aids in providing the construction industry with trained employees through higher education. Each year they award over $100,000 to worthy recipients in construction-related programs across the nation.

Holden Looper

Holden Looper is an active sophomore in the ConstructionManagement program at KSU and recent recipient of the Association of General Contractors of America (AGC) undergraduate scholarship.  The AGC Education and Research Foundation offers undergraduate and graduate level scholarships to students enrolled in ABET or ACCE-accredited construction management or construction related engineering programs. Over $10 million in scholarships have been awarded to more than 4,000 students attending colleges and universities across the country. This year Holden was only 1 of 2 students to receive this scholarship in Georgia and only 1 of 130 students nationwide. It is a $2,500 scholarship awarded annually until graduation.

Student Organizatons

All Construction Management students are members of the Constructors’ Guild. This organization includes the student chapters of the following national organizations:

  • Sigma Lambda Chi is a Construction Management Honor Society. Members are invited to join the origination based on their academic accomplishment and class level. Sigma Lambda Chi has frequent meetings and does community outreach events every semester.

  • The mission of AEE is “to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for Sustainable Development.”The Student Chapter focuses on providing presentations from industry professionals to showcase various energy efficiency and sustainability topics relating to renewable energy.

  • The Associated General Contractors of America is a membership organization dedicated to furthering the ever changing agenda of commercial construction contractors, improving job site safety and expanding the use of cutting edge technologies.

  • NAHB is a trade association that helps promote the policies that make housing a national priority. Since 1942, NAHB has been serving its members, the housing industry, and the public at large. 

  • Electrical construction offers a solid, rewarding career path. The purpose of a NECA student chapter is to encourage students to pursue a career in the electrical contracting industry.

  • The MCAA is a national trade association representing more than 2,800 of the industry’s most innovative and forward-thinking mechanical construction, plumbing and service firms across the United States.
