Research By Hussein Abaza and Zuhair El-ltr
This research discusses implementing innovative strategies to enhance student learning and success In the courses CM3800 (Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing) and CM3410 (Estimating). First, we used the flipped classroom approach in which students were provided with pre-recorded lectures to understand theoretical concepts. This allowed our classroom time to be dedicated to interactive lab sessions in the Building Materials and Methods Lab and the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) lab. Through these sessions, students applied conceptual theories to real-life equipment, bridging the gap between knowledge and practice.
We further enhanced the learning experience by inviting guest speakers from the industry. These experts brought valuable insights, shared real-world experiences, and showcased cutting-edge technologies. This exposure connect students to current industry practices and inspired them to explore innovative solutions. This interaction gave the students the opportunity to apply for internship positions and par time positions
The impact of these strategies was proven to be significantly positive. The end-of-semester assessments revealed a significant improvement in the percentage of students who achieved the targeted competency levels. The hands-on, discussion-driven learning model enhanced their ability to understand and apply core concepts effectively. The feedback from students in the course evaluation survey reflected a higher level of satisfaction with the course structure, highlighting their appreciation for the practical and engaging learning environment.
By fostering active participation, emphasizing experiential learning, and integrating industry relevance, we created a dynamic educational environment. This method increased the academic achievement, and also provided students with the skills and confidence to excel in their professional life. These strategies highlights the importance of blending theory with practice to achieve impactful learning experiences.
