The Agency

Student-run PR agency, professional experience, capstone course credit.

The School of Communication & Media at Kennesaw State University offers a unique capstone class experience to undergraduate PR majors. The class operates as a PR agency that provides up-and-coming PR professionals with the opportunity to gain real-world experience in a classroom setting. The program is offered as an additional option to the traditional capstone course. While the traditional PR Campaigns class focuses on developing a public relations plan and presenting the work to a client, the Agency takes it a step further and allows students to work directly with clients to implement the plan and evaluate its success.

Peak Communications Application

Thank you for your interest in Peak Communications, the School of Communication & Media’s student-run PR Agency!

Registration for this course is by application only and spaces are limited. Letters of recommendation are not required but you will need to list a PR professor who is supportive of you applying. This reference should be a professor in the public relations department but not Dr. Vizcarrondo, who will be teaching the class.

To apply, please complete and submit the application below. Once you have submitted the application, you will need to submit additional documents including:

  1. Current Resume
  2. Writing Sample - We prefer that your writing sample showcase your PR writing skills, so a sample press release, pitch letter, or other PR-related content would be great. This can include previous work from your PR Writing class or from any internship experience you may have had.
  3. Optional - In addition to the writing sample, you are encouraged to submit one creative sample, such as videography, graphics design, or other artistic work. This is not mandatory, but if you have previous experience, it would be helpful.

Submit these documents to tvizcarr@kennesaw.edu

You will be notified with a registration code and instructions on how to register if you are accepted. We will update you on the status of your application via KSU email.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.

Thank you for your interest,

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Agency is a unique campaigns course that gives students hands-on experience with a client. Undergraduates will be able to develop and implement a campaign for clients and evaluate its success in real time. Not only does this class give students professional material for their portfolios, it also creates a testimonial to relay to a future employer.
  • In a traditional campaigns class, you and your team will work to develop a public relations campaign for a specific client. At the end of the semester, you present the campaign plan to the client. In the agency class, you will spend a small part of the semester developing a campaign plan for your client, but a large part of the semester will be spent implementing the plan. You will coordinate all activities, collateral, deliverables and other components of the campaign to actually implement the plan and put it into action. This also gives you professional materials to add to your portfolio as you enter the workforce.
  • You must complete Public Relations Writing (PR 3375) and Communication Research Methods (PR 3435). You must also have earned a minimum of 90 credit hours and be a declared Public Relations major.
  • Of course! The selection process will be competitive, but we look for individuals that can bring specialized talents to the agency. A good agency includes “specialists” as well as “generalists,” and this agency is going to be more than just good.
  • No. However, we anticipate a competitive selection process, so if your grades aren’t competitive, you should be able to show other areas (e.g., work-related experience, previous work samples) that demonstrate your ability to make a strong contribution to the team.
  • In the Fall, the agency will meet on Wednesdays from 12:30—3:15 PM.
  • Submit your application NOW! Applications for the Fall semester are being accepted through Friday, March 3rd.
