Heather Pincock’s recent talk at KSU explored key contrasts in government structures, political culture, and policy outcomes between the Canada and the US.
Dr. Pincock began by outlining key structural differences between the two countries, particularly contrasting their executive and legislative branches.
She also explored how political culture in each country shapes policy outcomes, delving into areas such as abortion, healthcare, and immigration.
Dr. Pincock also delved into the historical origins that explain the policy variance between Canada and the United States. She emphasized how Canada's evolution from a British colony shaped its governance structures and policies. In contrast, the U.S. was founded on revolutionary ideals of individual liberty and limited government, which have deeply influenced its political culture and policy preferences.
We are thankful to Dr. Pincock for the talk, to Norman Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Dean Catherine Kaukinen for the support, and Shea Smith from Year of Canada Initiative and Global Education at KSU.
