SGIA Faculty at mmigration Across the Borders: Canada & the U.S.
For the past 40 years, Kennesaw State University (KSU) has dedicated each academic year to the study of a specific country or region, introducing thousands of students to the rich cultural diversity that shapes our global community. This award-winning initiative plays a vital role in internationalizing our campus and building meaningful connections with local and global partners. Each year, the program inspires the creation of new courses and curricula, research collaborations, education abroad opportunities, and strategic global partnerships.

For the 2024–2025 academic year, KSU celebrates the Year of Canada—continuing its longstanding tradition of globally focused programming established in 1984. Through partnerships with international institutions, community organizations, and campus units, the university has hosted a dynamic series of events including lectures, performances, exhibitions, film screenings, and seminars. These offerings aim to foster cultural understanding and engagement across borders.

As part of the Year of Canada initiative, SGIA, in collaboration with the Radow College, organized a panel discussion titled "Immigration Across the Borders: Canada & the U.S." The event featured Francis Garon, Associate Professor at York University, alongside KSU faculty members Dr. Darlene Xiomara Rodriguez, Dr. Paul McDaniel, and Dr. Ramazan Kilinc. Together, the panelists explored comparative immigration policies, societal impacts, and the shared challenges both nations face in addressing global migration.

The discussion provided about 200 students and attendees with a deeper understanding of the complexities of immigration and the importance of international collaboration in shaping inclusive and effective policies.
