  • Battling Back

Alex Caughman was easy to spot at his Dec. 13 graduation ceremony at Kennesaw State University, with a big smile on his face and shoulder-length hair flowing from under his mortarboard. While Caughman acknowledged that he would get a haircut the following day in order to “look presentable for job interviews,” his long locks had become symbolic of his journey to overcome cancer and earn his marketing degree from the Michael J. Coles College of Business.  –  December 21, 2017

  • Set for Success

Kristi Piedimonte spent her college years assisting others, and now she will make a career of it. As the setter on the Kennesaw State volleyball team, Piedimonte led the Owls in assists for four straight seasons and finished second in school history with 4,005 assists. Piedimonte saved her best for last as a senior, earning First Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors for the second straight year and leading KSU to a school-record 21 wins, the ASUN championship and the volleyball program’s first NCAA Tournament berth. Piedimonte achieved her volleyball success while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average and being named to the ASUN All-Academic team three times. She graduated a semester early with a nursing degree from the WellStar College of Health and Human Services and has accepted an offer to be a nurse in the intensive care unit at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.  –  December 18, 2017

  • Building on Legacy

As a child, Chase West meandered down the halls of the former Southern College of Technology with his father, Eddie, chatting with professors and admiring the numerous awards that lined the brick walls as they walked. At the time, Eddie West wanted to show his son the place where he learned his craft, long before becoming an electrical contractor and starting A. West Enterprise in Albany, Ga., with his wife, Angie. He never anticipated that his son would follow him and his father-in-law to become a third-generation contractor. After graduating this month with a degree in construction management, Chase West will join his father’s company as a project manager.  –  December 14, 2017
