  • Alumni join forces to launch design-focused software startup

Joey Ruse knows that the secret to a successful startup company involves generating a truly innovative idea and assembling a strong team of industry connections, the latter of which he said were forged during his time at Kennesaw State University.  –  August 12, 2020

  • KSU Professor Wins Most Influential Paper Award at International Conference

  • Night Owl students helping KSU put safety first

Lee Oliver is accustomed to utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) to draw venue layouts for a variety of events held at Kennesaw State University. However, he never envisioned doing it to reconfigure hundreds of areas on KSU’s campuses into socially distanced classrooms. Five student leaders – Oliver, Patricia Nwabude, Amy Forgerson, Taylor Garren and Dylan Harris – from Night Owl, the student group responsible for the day-to-day operations of KSU events, created the CAD diagrams in preparation for the start of fall semester. Along with having students’ seats at least six feet apart from each other, the designs had to factor other social-distancing considerations such as how far the first row of desks is from the board or how far the back row is from the door.  –  August 10, 2020

  • Engineering alumnus follows astronautics passion to become rocket scientist

Growing up, Hershle Ellis gravitated toward anything that had to do with science fiction and astronautics. He dreamed he would one day be responsible for blasting spacecraft into orbit and decided early on that studying engineering would be the vehicle through which he could achieve those goals. Having graduated from Kennesaw State University in May with his degree in mechanical engineering, Ellis recently accepted a position as a propulsion systems engineer, or a rocket scientist, at United Launch Alliance (ULA) in Colorado. At ULA, he is part of a team helping to design the Vulcan Centaur launch vehicle.  –  August 07, 2020

  • Biologist finds a home at KSU as teacher, mentor and researcher

All it took for Kennesaw State University assistant professor of biology Sarah Guindre-Parker was holding a bird. She arrived at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia as a biology major with a premed concentration, but all that changed once she joined a research project as an undergraduate. “I’d never seen a bird close-up, they look like these weird little dinosaurs.,” said Guindre-Parker, who is about to start her second year with KSU in the College of Science and Math. “I got really hooked on the birds and the field work, which sent me down the path of pursuing graduate school, doing some of the same work that I do today.”  –  August 05, 2020
