The M.Ed. in Elementary & Early Childhood Education is offered fully online. Each cohort is supported by graduate faculty who mentor the candidates and facilitate program delivery. The program of study schedule is designed to coincide with the public school calendar and is provided in advance so teachers can coordinate educational and personal commitments with program requirements.

The M.Ed. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education is designed for candidates who are already certified in Elementary (P-5) and/or Early Childhood Education teachers who wish to continue to learn more about the Education field and improve their instructional practices. The program allows certified teachers in to earn their M.Ed. in 3 - 4 semesters while continuing their career in teaching.

You may choose between the faster-paced Option A or the slower-paced Option B, as outlined below. All courses are only offered once per year. Check the M.Ed. in Early Childhood & Elementary Education online catalog for course descriptions:

    Completion of the program will satisfy PSC requirements for a T5 certificate upgrade in the state of Georgia. KSU’s M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education provides space for three electives, which can be used to pursue one of the following PSC endorsement certificates.

  • All endorsements are available fully online.
  • An endorsement program is approved/recognized by the Georgia PSC. After completing coursework, you can apply to have an endorsement added to your teaching certificate. The PSC does not add KSU certificate programs to your Georgia teaching certificate, but the KSU certificate programs packages highly marketable coursework to enhance your opportunities as educators.

  • If your salary is based on your Georgia certificate level, you should receive a salary increase depending on policies where you are employed. If you have questions regarding your individual certification status, you may check with the PSC at www.gapsc.com.

  • You will take three classes per each semester. Fall and Spring semesters are 16-week long and Summer semester is 6-week long. All courses require you to dedicate approximately 8-10 hours per week per course. In the fully online format there are no face-to-face classes. There are some synchronous (real-time) online sessions for some of the classes, but much of work is completed as group-paced, asynchronous activities. This means that there are deadlines to complete work, but you are not often asked to be online at the same time. Most work is completed at your own pace, at your own schedule. Interaction and collaboration with peers do take place, but tools such as postings and discussion forums do not require that students are online at the same time. 
  • The program takes 3-4 semesters, depending on the number of credit hours taken each semester. Please note at least 6 credit hours are required for Financial Aid eligibility.
    • We are a recognized institution of higher education with a proven track record for providing excellent educational opportunities for teachers.
    • Our program is both NCATE and Georgia PSC accredited.
    • Our faculty have excellent academic credentials and are actively pursuing research and creative activity in their fields of study.
    • Our curriculum is practical—based on projects you will do in your own schools.
    • We offer a fully online program.
    • Our program will prepare you for advanced study, should you decide to pursue an Ed.S., Ed.D. or Ph.D. program in the future.

Admission Requirements

Must possess the following beyond the general KSU Graduate College Admission Requirements:

  • Degree – Bachelor’s degree  with at least a 2.75 GPA  (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Official Transcripts from each college attended, including those institutions where degrees were not earned. Official transcripts are those in a university-sealed envelope. Transcripts should reflect at least a bachelor’s degree with at least a 2.75 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). 
  • Teaching Certificate – Uploaded to graduate application. Current clear, renewable Georgia Teaching Certificate, out-of-state equivalent, OR Elementary & Early Childhood Department Chair permission. Must hold certification in Early Childhood (Birth to Kindergarten) or Elementary (PK-5th Grade) Education to be considered for this program,  or receive permission of the chair. To print a copy of your clear, renewable Georgia teaching certificate, you may log into your MyPSC account.
