This webpage lists databases (and host faculty contact information) and other resources available to Coles College of Business faculty for research and teaching purposes.

I. G*POWER

G*Power is a tool to compute statistical power analyses for many different tests, F tests, χ2 tests, z tests and some exact tests. G*Power can also be used to compute effect sizes and to display graphically the results of power analyses. The software is available here https://www.psychologie.hhu.de

II. Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS)

WRDS is a web-based business data research service from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Developed in 1993 to support faculty research at Wharton, the service has evolved to become a common tool for research for over 290 institutions around the world. WRDS is the de facto standard for business data, providing researchers worldwide with instant access to financial, economic, and marketing data through a uniform, web-based interface. This hosted data service has become the locus for quantitative data research and is recognized by the academic and financial research community around the world as the leading business intelligence tool.

Various databases accessible through WRDS include:

a) COMPUSTAT

COMPUSTAT is a database of financial, statistical and market information covering active US and Canadian companies as well as inactive US companies that trade on major exchanges in US and Canada, subsidiaries of US companies that file sources with SEC and other highly requested US companies. It provides more than 500 Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Flow of Funds items (i.e., company-level fundamentals), and an even larger number of supplemental data items. It also contains information on indices, industry segments, banks, market prices, dividends, and earnings.

b) CRSP

The Center for Research in Security Prices (CRSP) maintains the most comprehensive collection of security price, return, and volume data for the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ stock markets. Additional CRSP files provide stock indices, beta- and cap-based portfolios, treasury bond and risk-free rates, mutual funds, and real estate data. The CRSP® US Stock Database provides a unique research source characterized by its unmatched breadth, depth, and completeness. It includes CRSP's unique permanent identifiers allowing for clean and accurate back testing, time-series and event studies, measurement of performance, accurate benchmarking, and securities analysis. The CRSP US Stock Database contains end-of-day and month-end prices on all listed NYSE, Amex, and NASDAQ common stocks along with basic market indices, and includes the most comprehensive distribution information available, with the most accurate total return calculations.

c) Audit Analytics

Audit Analytics is a premium company intelligence service providing independent research to the investment, accounting, insurance, legal, regulatory and academic communities. Audit Analytics provides detailed research on over 150,000 active audits and more than 10,000 accounting firms. Access to the Audit Analytics data is available via an online user subscription, email notifications, enterprise data-feed subscription and custom research reports.

Audit Analytics data includes detailed categorizations of issues and is considered by many professionals to be the best primary data source for tracking and analysis of public company disclosures related to the audit, compliance, governance, corporate actions and federal litigation.

d) Bank Regulatory

The Bank Regulatory Database contains five databases for regulated depository financial institutions. These databases provide accounting data for bank holding companies, commercial banks, savings banks, and savings and loans institutions. The source of the data comes from the required regulatory forms filed for supervising purposes.

f) Capital IQ

S&P Capital IQ is a leading provider of multi-asset class and real time data, research and analytics to institutional investors, investment and commercial banks, investment advisors and wealth managers, corporations and universities around the world. It provides a broad suite of capabilities designed to help track performance, generate alpha, and identify new trading and investment ideas, and perform risk analysis and mitigation strategies.

Interested users have to request an individual access code from Capital IQ directly.  The person to contact at Capital IQ is Megan Heffernan (megan.heffernan@spglobal.com). Then, the requester receives an individual confirmation email with Login and Password details directly from Capital IQ.

g) Thomson Reuters' SDC Mergers and Acquisitions

Thomson Reuters provides complete coverage of global mergers and acquisitions activity, featuring individual deal details and terms and conditions for the deal-making community. Thomson Reuters M&A content covers over one million deals, including 300,000+ US-target and 700,000+ non-US-target transactions announced since the 1970s. III. Editorial Services

This service is designed to provide Coles College faculty with copyediting and/or more substantive editing on papers that have received an invitation to submit revisions from an A+ or A peer reviewed journal. These editing services specifically include:

  • Confirm that the article adheres to the peer review journal’s stylistic guidelines;
  • Focus on article mechanics such as consistency, spelling, and grammar;
  • Check article clarity, organization, and logical flow
  • Make content suggestions as needed.

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

  • We have a request especially considering serious resource constraints we face and as we try to maximize faculty who can benefit from this initiative. Before you send the manuscript to be emailed to the editor, please do the best you can to make it a final version since we are being charged per hour.
  • Editor requires that papers be submitted in MS Word, 12-point font, double spaced, with pages numbered, and that any peer review journal’s specific revision suggestions be included or attached so that the editor can take those into consideration during the editing process.
  • Editor requires direct email access to the manuscript author so that any necessary communication or discussion will not be delayed.
  • Editor requires clear communication of any manuscript deadlines, be they from the peer review journal or the manuscript author.
  • Editor requires a minimum of 48-hour (two days) turnaround time, but in unusual circumstances, exceptions may be considered.
  • Editor requests the website address of the peer journal to which the paper is to be resubmitted, to confirm that the paper meets the journal’s style and format requirements upon completion of editing.

IV. Bloomberg Professional

The Bloomberg Professional service delivers coverage of markets and securities with information on every asset class "from fixed income to equities, to foreign exchange, commodities and derivatives" integrated in one place and delivered in real time.

V. International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

ITU a unit of the UN, annually publishes a time series data since 1975. Over 200 countries annually participate in this endeavor. More than 150 indicators including telephone subscription, Internet, traffic, staff, prices, revenue, investment, and ICT access by household are collected at the country level (https://www.itu.int/en/ITU-D/Statistics/Pages/publications/wtid.aspx). This wealth of information for research and teaching is available at our KSU library.

VI. NVivo

NVivo is a software that supports qualitative and mixed methods research. It is designed to help organize, analyze and find insights in unstructured, or qualitative data like: interviews, open-ended survey responses, articles, social media and web content. It facilitates in-depth qualitative analysis of textual and audiovisual data sources, including:

  • Collecting and importing data.
  • Organizing, classifying and coding data.
  • Adding interpretations and notes.
  • Querying and searching data.
  • Visualizing data with models, maps, graphs.
  • Sharing findings.

VII. JMP Pro

JMP is a predictive analytics software that takes statistical discovery to the next level. It is affiliated with SAS and includes among other features, interactive data visualization, text exploration, statistical modeling, consumer and market research and excellent support for experimental design. JMP Pro offers all the tools in JMP plus advanced features for more sophisticated analyses. VIII. BoardEx

The BoardEx database contains biographical information on most board members and senior executives around the world. Approximately 25% of the individuals are currently serving on boards of companies and 75% are either board members or part of the C-Suite. These individuals are associated with over 800,000 global organizations. New leaders are being added continuously including over 100,000 new people annually representing turnover in key organizational roles in the world’s largest companies.

IX. Capital IQ Pro ESG Database

The ESG database includes multiple datasets covering public companies worldwide. Summary and detailed ESG scores and metrics for public companies worldwide. The oldest data goes back to 2013 and coverage
increases over time.

Trucost Environmental covers environmental costs and environmental and climate risk from 2005 onwards for large firms with data coverage from 2016 for small and medium cap firms worldwide.

Climate Analytics has company level climate-change physical risks, carbon pricing risks, and Paris Agreement alignment analysis (2018+). The files listed below include data explanations and the method Capital-IQ applies to derive the data.

X. Statista

Statista operates under the website www.statista.com a statistics portal that provides access to

statistics and studies on over 80,000 topics and areas of interest. Statista allows users to quickly and efficiently access relevant information on a wide variety of markets and industries. Benefits of Statista services include:

  • Industry-specific economic macro data with key indicators of market trends
  • Industry-specific surveys on relevant trends and forecasts
  • Consumer behavior studies
  • The Statista database is categorized into 22 industry sectors with approximately 600 markets and

industries. Statista collects, evaluates, and publishes key statistics on relevant subjects, providing users with a comprehensive overview of available data on a specific topic.

XI. Stata 15

Stata is a complete, integrated statistical software package that provides everything you need for data analysis, data management, and graphics. Detailed information on features associated with this software package can be found at https://www.stata.com/features/.

XII. IBES

The I/B/E/S provides consensus and detail forecasts from security analysts, including earnings per share, revenue, cash flow, long-term growth projections and stock recommendations. I/B/E/S databases contain financial analysts' earnings forecasts for a wide range of  U.S. and international firms. The I/B/E/S database currently covers over 69,000 companies in 90 countries. It gathers earnings estimates from over 1300 firms, from largest global houses to regional and local brokers.

XIII. SPSS Amos

IBM SPSS Amos lets you easily use structural equation modeling (SEM) to test hypotheses on complex variable relationships and gain new insights from data.
