Fall Events

October is Campus Sustainability Month! During the month, institutions of higher education all over the world celebrate the critical role students and universities play as change agents in their communities. To celebrate, the Office of Sustainability will be hosting a series of on and off campus events for students, faculty, and staff. We hope you will join us!

October 3: National Pumpkin Seed Day (Marietta Campus In Front of Stingers 12:00 PM) Halloween kicks off the holiday season in the US extending through New Year's Day. Candy, Turkey, and Food Waste? Oh my! Visit us at our table in front of Stingers to learn about ways to avoid food waste this holiday season and pick up a Roasted Pumpkin Seed recipe to turn your pumpkin carving leftovers into a delicious and nutritious snack!

October 5: Farmer's Market and Owl Swap (Kennesaw Campus Green 11 AM – 1 PM) Celebrate Sustainable fashion by thrifting with Owl Swap and pick up some KSU Grown veggies from the Farmer's Market on the Kennesaw Green.

October 10: What's in Your Trash? (Marietta Campus In Front of Stingers 10 AM – 1 PM) Come see what's in your trash by observing a student-run waste audit.

October 11: Radow Sustainability Tour (Kennesaw Campus) Celebrating Radow’s 365 Days of Learning and Service on Sustainability. The Office of Sustainability will be offering a tour of the KSU campus to participating faculty, students and staff.

October 12: Farmer's Market and Water Bottle Rescue (Kennesaw Campus Green 11 AM – 1 PM) Pick from KSU Field Station's Fall Harvest goods and pick up a free "Rescued" water bottle. Help us keep plastic out of our waterways and ditch your plastic, disposable water bottle by picking up a reusable one. 

October 12: The Geography Club Present: Sustainable Film Series: "Seed: The Untold Story" (Kennesaw Campus Social Sciences Building Room 1019)

October 14: Lake Nelson Clean-up Join our EcoOwls as they clean-up Lake Nelson right next door to our campus. 

October 20: Celebrating Radow’s 365 Days of Learning and Service on Sustainability? The Office of Sustainability will be offering a tour of the KSU campus to participating faculty, students, and staff. Dr. Vanessa Slinger-Friedman will be offering a tour of the KSU Field Station and Food Forest to participating faculty, students, and staff. 

October 26: Pumpkin Launch (Marietta Campus Soccer Field 2 PM – 5 PM) Join the Office of Sustainability at KSU's annual Pumpkin Launch. This year's competitors are taking Sustainability into account in their designs and as part of their requirements, from recyclable materials to more efficient structures, come check out their work! Our office will be collecting all launched pumpkins to be donated to a chicken farm for feed and distributing pumpkin seed roasting recipes for everyone planning to carve their own pumpkin for Halloween!
