“The National Institutes of Health (NIH) research education program  supports educational activities that encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, to pursue further studies or careers in research.”

Overview of BRITE

  • You do not have to switch your degree or major!

    • The KSUBRITE program is designed to minimize the impact on a trainee’s undergraduate studies
    • During the freshman and sophomore years a trainee’s commitment there an average of 3-4 BRITE activities per month, plus part-time work in research labs

    • Capstone project (junior, senior years)  

    • Part-time work (compensated) to participate in BRITE program organized academic activities (e.g., research skills workshops etc.) - for the freshman and sophomore years  

    • Summer research experience (compensated) between sophomore and junior years

    • Community rotations in clinics, hospitals and biomedical companies.

    • Capstone research project as part of team (Junior, Senior)

    • Optional four-week summer research experience after your freshman year

    • Tuition - Freshman and Sophomore years (NIH)

    • Part-time work – Compensation for participating in program research activities (160 hours per semester @ $10/hours)

    • Summer Bridge program (i.e., bootcamp) - per diem stipend

    • Summer Research Experience (8 weeks / 40 hours per week @ $10/hour)

    • Conference travel stipend– ($500) To present research at a conference (sophomore year)
