KSU researcher awarded NIH grant for project on gestational diabetes risk

Gestational diabetes affects nearly one in 10 pregnancies and is associated with children facing an increased risk of obesity and diabetes as adults. Kennesaw State University researcher Katherine Ingram is tackling these transgenerational health issues through a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Ingram, associate professor of exercise science in KSU’s Wellstar College of Health and Human Services, is the principal investigator for the $406,000 grant awarded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).

Donors support education abroad opportunities for KSU students

Christie and Tom Emerson have long believed in the importance of giving back to their community. Now, the couple is helping students at Kennesaw State spread their wings. Christie, an associate professor of nursing at KSU, said that she and Tom, a urologist with Wellstar Health System, have always enjoyed traveling. But a trip in 2009 to visit a friend and former colleague who had relocated to the United Arab Emirates, started her wheels turning.

Grant for KSU academy will help create job opportunities

Anthropologist, sport scientist join forces for bone health study

One professor studies the bones of the deceased, the other studies the bones of the living. They will combine their expertise on a study about how exercise fosters bone health. Alice Gooding, associate professor of anthropology at Kennesaw State University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences and an avid runner, and Yuri Feito, associate professor of exercise science in KSU’s Wellstar College of Health and Human Services, met last year during a new summer research fellowship program in KSU’s Office of Research.
