The Knowledge Map is a visual tool for illustrating how CACM’s research expertise spans and connects across the built environment. Each position on the map represents a faculty strength, plotted not only by topic but also by scale—from XS, material-level research, to XL, city-scale investigations.

This scale captures the full range of our work: from developing and testing innovative materials, to integrating complex building systems, to addressing neighborhood, infrastructure, and urban-scale challenges. The map reveals where domains overlap, scales intersect, and faculty collaborate across boundaries, highlighting natural points of convergence between disciplines, methods, and applications.

It serves as both a navigation tool helping students, partners, and collaborators identify the right expertise. It is also a strategic lens for spotting emerging opportunities, initiating multi-scale projects, and demonstrating CACM’s distinctive capacity to operate from the lab bench to the city block. It’s both a snapshot of what we do today and a compass guiding where we go next.
