Class Withdrawal

Students may withdraw from one or more courses at any time before the withdrawal deadline listed on the academic calendar. In order to receive a partial refund, you must completely withdraw from ALL courses in the semester. Visit the Withdrawal Dates and Refund Percentages page for more information on withdrawal refund percentages.

Please see the Academic Catalog for detailed information on withdrawing from classes.

Who to Contact Before Withdrawing

Students should consult with their advisor prior to withdrawing. Students with additional restrictions should consult with the following areas when applicable:

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is impacted when students withdraw from classes. Federal regulations, HEA Sec. 484(c), §668.16, 668.34, require all schools participating in Title IV federal financial aid programs to have a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy that conforms to the requirements detailed on the Financial Aid webpage. These requirements apply to all students as one determinant of eligibility for financial aid.

How to Withdraw from Classes

Students will log in to Owl Express to withdraw from courses online. Follow the link for “Class Withdrawal” under the Registration tab, and be sure you read all information presented to you. Please note, withdrawing from classes and dropping classes are not the same process and will be in two different locations.

Class withdrawal is a multi-step process:
  • First: Review your schedule of classes and select the class you are attempting to withdraw from. You must do this for each individual class.
  • Next: The next page will show you the grade you will be earning and ask you for a reason as to why you are withdrawing.
  • Final step: Choose “Yes, process withdrawal request” or “No, I’ve Changed My Mind.”

You will be redirected back to the first page that will show your schedule of classes, and the updated eligibility status will read **Withdrawn**. There is a note above your schedule that states: Please print a copy of this withdrawal form for your records.

Emergency Withdrawal:

When an emergency occurs during the current term, and the withdrawal deadline has passed, the student may contact the Office of the Dean of Students to appeal for an administrative emergency withdrawal. For more information, visit the Division of Student Affairs.
